ART

This fortnight in Art, the Year 2 students have been exploring the dramatic world of the Baroque period! They’ve been learning about the realistic, emotion-filled portrait styles of famous artists like Artemisia Gentileschi and Rembrandt. To celebrate Aboriginal excellence and influence, the Year 2s created stunning split-face portraits of iconic Australians like Eddie Mabo, Cathy Freeman, Jessica Mauboy, David Unaipon, Evonne Goolagong, David Gulpilil, Gurrumul Yunupingu, and Adam Goodes. Using charcoal, they practised shading and blending techniques while deepening their understanding of why these figures hold such an important place in Australia’s story. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for the Year 2s to develop both their artistic skills and their understanding of Australia’s diverse heritage!

Kindy

Kindy students used their engineering thinking, imagination and art skills to find the magic in foraged natural parts from our playground, creating a leaf fairy! Students designed their own unique leaf fairy and will be using it for further literacy and art lessons in the coming weeks.

Mother’s Day Portraits in Kindy Blue

Last week the children in Kindy Blue created a portrait of their mum. First, they drew an image of mum with crayons. They were asked to think about the colour of mum’s eyes and hair. After drawing they painted with edicol dye. Finally, they used a variety of fabrics to collage mum’s clothes. The portraits of their mum's are now hanging proudly in the entrance to the classroom. The children also created a bowl for mum, collaging many small pieces of fabric around a mould. A quite challenging fine motor activity.

Year 1

This fortnight in Art, the Year 1 students have been diving into the world of the Renaissance! They’ve been exploring the famous artworks of this era and learning about the techniques used by artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Plautilla Nelli. The students have especially enjoyed creating portraits of their mums in a Renaissance style, using watercolour pencils to carefully shade, blend, and bring their artworks to life. They’ve also been working on shading and blending their own versions of the Mona Lisa, using oil pastels, developing their artistic skills and attention to detail. It’s been a wonderful opportunity for the Year 1s to connect with history while expressing their creativity!

Italian Day

Mamma Mia! Well what a day Friday the 4 April was for all, students, staff, parents and the entire school community. What an awesome Italian immersion day!

Arriving to school on the day one could sense and see all the amazing efforts put into dressing up and the creativity with the costumes. Little Italy came to Coolbinia and the vibe was magnifico! From the food, to learning about the Culture through a range of activities planned for the day, to our finale with the entire school community finishing off with an Italian song. Thanks again everyone, firstly the students for your passion, then parents and teachers who assisted on the day. Well done Mr Owen for winning the pasta eating competition. The whole school community came together in a very magical way!

Grazie a tutti! Signora Zeiser
