Our co-curricular opportunities are diverse and encompass various activities, from extensive music ensembles, choirs, Running Club, afterschool and interschool sports, chess, coding, tennis, creative art and lunchtime academic competitions and faction events.

We see the Primary School years as a time for students to discover and explore their interests, igniting their passions. Participation and involvement are at the core of what we do, creating connections, fostering a deep sense of community, and allowing students to explore and discover their passions.

Co-curricular activities are available before and after school for students from Prep through to Year 6. Activities are provided based on student's interests and are reviewed regularly to reflect the cohort. In addition, before school care and afterschool care services are available to parents.

Through these experiences, students learn the true value of teamwork, putting their skills into practice while simultaneously forging lasting bonds with their peers. These activities are about acquiring new skills and creating memorable moments filled with fun and enjoyment, making learning truly unforgettable.

Signature Programs

Beyond the core curriculum, our innovative signature programs, developed specifically for Coolbinia students, further enrich the learning program. These programs build on the skills, competencies and knowledge developed through the core curriculum and cater to the diverse needs and growth of our students.

Leadership

Our leadership program emphasises service and the development of leadership attributes through a collaborative, team-based approach. Our first formal leadership opportunity is in Year 2 when students take on a mentoring role for Prep and Year 1 students through our Frambassadors program. This serves as a strong foundation as students experience ongoing leadership learning and the opportunity to take on different roles in Years 3-5 before embarking on our year-long Year 6 Leadership experience. Year 6 is a significant milestone with the establishment of formal team and leadership positions for all Year 6 students: a year of focused leadership learning, action and reflection. Students in Year 5 and 6 also have the opportunity to stand for the Student Representative Council (Years 2-6) and work with Year 6 students, staff and Board to create positive change across the school.

River Rangers

River Rangers is an outstanding program for engaging primary aged children in environmental action. Our cadets have enjoyed a wide range of learning opportunities, from orienteering and tree planting to water testing, litter collection and fishing clinics at the river. Cadets have completed stencilling drains around our school and painted a huge mural of the river, amongst other exciting activities. In brief, River Rangers provides fabulous opportunities for the empowerment of our children, so they can meaningfully contribute to the sustainability of our catchment area.

Program objectives

  • Involve students in the protection of the rivers

  • Establish recognition of local river systems

  • Increase understanding and engagement with the importance of conserving European and Noongar cultural history

Outcomes

The training conducted by the Coolbinia Cadet Unit aims to ensure that cadets:

  • Develop leadership and team building skills

  • Improve their self-confidence

  • Develop and improve their interpersonal skills

  • Develop and improve their initiative skills

  • Take an active role in the community and develop a sense of community service

Roots and Shoots

Founded in 1991 by Dr Jane Goodall is a global humanitarian and environmental education program for young people to foster respect for all living things. Coolbinia Roots and Shoots Club is a hands on program from worm farming, food garden bed care to Peth Zoo conservation projects. In essence it’s a student-centred action group that help address local issues.

Program objectives
