Our Primary School

The Primary School at Coolbinia is not just a place of education; it is a community dedicated to nurturing well-rounded, curious, and resilient individuals, where every child's potential is recognised and celebrated.

The Primary School at Coolbinia is not just a place of education; it is a community dedicated to nurturing well-rounded, curious, and resilient individuals, where every child's potential is recognised and celebrated.

The Primary School is a home for learning.

In our classrooms you will find rich and engaging programs underpinned by contemporary learning approaches and evidence-based research in students’ education. There is an emphasis on establishing solid foundations in literacy and numeracy and other core curriculum areas while tailoring programs to cater to the individual needs of each student. Inquiry and project-based learning empower our students as partners in their learning, cultivating a culture of thinking and deep questioning, critical and creative thought, and developing competencies such as effective communication and collaboration.

In addition to our core curriculum, our students benefit from an extensive specialist program encompassing a wide range of subjects such as STEM, Coding, Music, PE (Physical Education), Health, Sport, Italian, and access to a well-equipped library. This diversity enriches students’ learning experiences, enabling them to explore countless opportunities.

To further support our students, our SAER Team (Students at Educational Risk) collaborate closely with students, teachers and families, utilising assessment, and data to enable and extend the learning experience of our students. This approach ensures that teachers deeply understand each student's unique needs and helps us continually refine our educational programs to facilitate their growth and development.

Knowledge, Enlightenment & Discovery

We want every child to feel relaxed, happy and at home at school. We value the individual above all else and we hope that all pupils will learn to be proud of themselves and their abilities and respectful and tolerant of the individuality and abilities of others.

Childhood is precious and we want all children to have plenty of time for play, fun and laughter. With children remaining with us until they are 12, they can enjoy the fun of childhood in a child centred environment.

We welcome you to Coolbinia Early Learning. Your child’s journey starts here.

Curriculum Structure

The Australian Curriculum is designed to develop successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. It is presented as a progression of learning from Foundation - Year 10 that makes clear to teachers, parents, students, and others in the wider community what is to be taught, and the quality of learning expected of young people as they progress through school.

The primary audience for the Australian Curriculum is teachers. The curriculum is concise and is expressed in plain language while preserving a complexity appropriate for professional practitioners. Consistency in terms of language and broad structure supports teachers in and across learning areas.

Learning areas, subjects, strands

The learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education comprise a single subject. The learning areas of Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts, Technologies and Languages each comprise multiple subjects. This reflects the custom and practice of each discipline.

Within each learning area or subject, the largest structural unit for content is a strand. Typically strands are further divided into sub-strands and/or threads, which are populated with content descriptions. The sequence of strands, sub-strands and threads from Foundation - Year 10 within each learning area or subject is most easily viewed in the scope and sequence documents, provided as PDFs, on this k10outline - Western Australian Curriculum (scsa.wa.edu.au) website.
