This week, our Year 3 students went on an excursion to the UWA School of Plant Biology to engage in activities linked to their current STEAM focus – Design Technologies; growing food on Mars using hydroponic systems.
Students went on a guided tour of the facilities and excitedly handled different plants grown in water and learned about the experiments being run on the plants by PHD students. After an energetic lunch break at Matilda Bay, students got their hands dirty as they chose seeds to plant and take home. We hope that they are beginning to sprout! A big thank you goes to our community friends at UWA, in particular Robert Creasy who dedicated his day to planning and running the activities for students. It was a meaningful and authentic way for students to make real connections to growing food on Mars.
