Our school has participated in Curtin University’s outreach science program, Mildew Mania, since it started six years ago.

Year 1 children (ELC2) are our Mildew Maniacs this year.  They are learning about the importance of barley as a Western Australian crop and the challenges our farmers face in coping with mildew growing on the barley.  So far the students have planted Baudin and Wyalkatchem barley seeds.  Next week they will plant more varieties.

You can see the ‘before’ photo of the barley bed prior to the seeds shooting.

Watch this space … as the seeds grow we’ll be watching for symptoms of mildew infection.
